Installing Windows NT 4.0 Port Replicator NIC Drivers

The following instructions tell how to install/uninstall
the Port Replicator NIC driver for your computer.

Note:  If you have a printer connected to your computer,
you can print these instructions from Notepad by 
clicking on File on the menu bar and then click on Print.
		

Installing PR-NIC Drivers
in WIN NT 4.0 APM (1st time)
----------------------------

 1. Place the Digital System CD in the CD drive. 

 2. Click on the Start button located on the Windows
    Taskbar.

 3. Select Settings and click on Control Panel.

 4. Double-click on the Network icon.

 5. Click on YES when asked to install Windows NT
    Networking. 

 6. The Network Setup Wizard asks how your computer 
    should be connected to the network, WIRED TO THE 
    NETWORK is the default.  Click on NEXT.

    Note: This procedure will only cover a hard-wired
          connection, not a Dial-Up connection. 

 7. Select a Network Adapter.  To do this, click on
    SELECT FROM LIST.

 8. In the Select Network Adapter dialog box 
    click on HAVE DISK.

 9. Enter the path to the Port Replicator's NIC 
    drivers.

     
       D:\DRIVERS\WINNT\PORT REPLICATOR NIC\NT40
       (D is the letter of the CD drive.)

10. Click on OK.

11. Select the network adapter for the Port Replicator
    NIC: 

	Digital HiNote VP Series Port Replicator

12. Click on OK.

13. Click on NEXT.

14. Select the network protocols you want to use.
    After selecting the network porotocols, click on
    NEXT.

15. Click on NEXT in the next two windows.

16. Enter the path to your WIN NT install files.  For
    example:  C:\WINNT\OPTIONS\I386.

17. Click on OK in the next screen, DO NOT change any
    of the Port Replicator resource settings or it
    will NOT work.

18. The next window will ask you if you want DHCP.
    It will depend on your network configuration.

    If you click on YES, the install procedure will 
    continue, and you can go to Step 19. 

    If you click on NO, at this point you need to 
    insert the WIN NT Install CD, and type the path 
    to the I386 directory so WIN NT can copy some 
    files. Then click OK.  Next you will configure 
    your TCP/IP Properties.  When finished, click on
    APPLY and then OK.

19. In the Network Setup Wizard window, click on NEXT 
    then Click on NEXT in the next window.

20. If an error box regarding DHCP is displayed, ignore
    the message and click on YES. (Note: if you
    clicked YES in Step 18 the error box will not be displayed.)

21. Configure your network setup, by setting up either
    a Workgroup or Domain. When finished, click on NEXT.

22. Click on FINISH.

23. Click on YES when asked to Restart the computer.




Un-Installing the PR-NIC Drivers
--------------------------------

 1. Click on the Start button located on the Windows
    Taskbar.

 2. Select Settings and click on Control Panel

 3. Double-click on the Network icon.

 4. Click on the Adapters tab. 

 5. Click on REMOVE then click on YES.

 6. Click on the Protocols tab. Remove ALL the
    protocols.  To remove a Protocol:
    a.  Click on the Protocol
    b.  Click on Remove.
    c.  Click on YES.
    d.  Repeat for each Protocol.

 7. Click on the Services tab. Remove ALL the services
    in the following order: Worstation, NetBios 
    Interface, RPC Configuration, Server.

    To remove a Service:
    a.  Click on the Service.
    b.  Click on Remove.
    c.  Click on YES.
    d.  Repeat for each Service.
 
 5. Click on CLOSE. 

 6. Click on YES when asked to restart the computer.
